To
play music from an Android device, open the Sonos Controller App for
Android, touch “This Mobile Device” from the Sonos music menu, and
choose the music you want to play. Any audio file stored in the Music
folder on your device is available for selection.
What do I need to start playing music from my Android device to Sonos?
You
need an Android phone or tablet running Android 2.2 or higher with
music stored on the device. The device will need to be connected to your
home WiFi network.
What audio formats are supported when streaming from an Android device?
Streaming
from an android device supports music in AAC, FLAC, M4A, MP3, MP4, Ogg
and WAV audio formats (and WMA audio formats on limited Android
devices). Make sure the music is stored in the Music folder on the
Android device.
How do I play music I’ve purchased through the Google Play Store?
- Download the tracks to your computer from Google Play Music.
- Connect your Android device to your computer and copy the tracks to the “Music” folder on your device.
- Once complete, open up the Sonos Controller App for Android and touch “This Mobile Device” to browse and play your music.
For further information on downloading music from Google Play Music, please visit the Google Play help pages.
You
can also stream purchased and uploaded music directly to Sonos from the
Google Play Music app. Downloading the music to the device is not
necessary for this feature. Simply touch the Cast icon in the Google Play Music app and choose your Sonos speaker or group.
Why don’t see my tracks listed under “This Mobile Device”?
The
Sonos app will scan the “Music” folder on your Android device and will
display any of the music files that it finds within. If you don’t see
your music listed in Sonos, make sure the music files are stored in the
“Music” folder on your device.
The
Android device you are playing music from needs to be powered on and
connected to your WiFi network. If you receive an error relating to a
track that is stored on your Android device, ensure that device that
contains the music file is powered on and connected to your home WiFi
network. If the device is no longer available, clear out its tracks from
the queue to prevent the prompt from displaying.
